30TH ANNIVERSARY COLLECTION [3 DISC TOUR EDITION] / WHITESNAKE (2008)

  

この"30th Anniversary Collection [3 Disc Tour Edition]"は、ホワイトスネイクの30周年を記念して2008年にリリースされた全52曲収録の3枚組CD。

「ディスク 1」は、2004年にリリースされたデヴィッド・カヴァーデイル選曲のコンピレーション・アルバム"The Early Years"（1978年の"Trouble"から1984年の"Slide It In"までのアルバムによる選曲）と基本的には同内容で、「ディスク 2と3」は、バンド結成25周年を記念して2003年にリリースされた2枚組CD"The Silver Anniversary Collection"のアップデート・ヴァージョンとなっている（3枚共に2008年デジタル・リマスター）。

ちなみに、バンド結成25周年を記念したコンピレーション・アルバムとしては、この2枚組の"The Silver Anniversary Collection"の他にも、シングル・ディスクのヴァージョン"Best of Whitesnake"がリリースされており、こちらの方はイギリスのアルバム・チャートで44位を記録している。

    

このアルバムの良いところは、特に「ディスク 1」に収録されている比較的古い曲がりマスター効果でよりダイナミックなサウンドになっているという点で、加えて、レーベルの垣根を超えた選曲になっているのもホワイトスネイクの足跡をたどるにはバランスの取れた非常に良いコンピレーション・アルバムなのではないかと思う。

ただ、反面、各アルバムからまんべんなく選曲がされているが故に、人気作である「Slide It In / スライド・イット・イン」と「Whitesnake / 白蛇の紋章～サーペンス・アルバス」については、あの曲が収録されていないのかと感じる部分は少なからずあるかもしれない。なお、「UK」と「US」のミックスが存在するこの2作品については「UK ヴァージョン」の方が収録されている。
